Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, predating modern European capitals including London, Paris, and Rome by centuries, so naturally, it has a rich and diverse history with plenty to see and explore. Lisbon is also one of the sunniest capitals in Europe, between the months of May to August, food and music festivals are practically a national sport. 

Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, excavations of the São Jorge Castle have identified a human presence in the Tagus valley as early as the 6th century BC. The district spans from this Moorish hilltop castle to the River Tagus, making it a great central location to start exploring the historical city. Explore steep cobbled streets lined with colorful Portuguese tiles – azulejos, enjoy the views from a tram, and try Portuguese tapas.

Sintra, described as a fairytale town, is located less than an hour from Lisbon. The small village on the Portuguese Riviera is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 9th-century Romanticist architecture, royal palaces and castles, historic villas and estates, secret gardens, and beautiful vistas.

Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, is known for its port wine and architectural heritage. The Romanesque Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) is one of the city's oldest monuments, built between 1110 and 1737. Other sites in the city include Avenida dos Aliados, Majestic Café, and the Foz riverside neighbourhood.
